While the US government is supposed to be an impartial arbiter of how public lands should be used, Trump has stacked the administration with former fossil-fuel lobbyists and conservative activists. Often, the department sells access to these lands at rock bottom prices and in places that are sacred to tribal communities, important to imperiled animals, and critical to prevent runaway climate change.
Weak environmental protections, safety rules and labor and civil rights protections may be cutting lives short in conservative states and deepening the divide between red and blue states, according to a new study on links between life expectancy and state policy.
Some states, mostly in the Northeast and the West, have seen average life expectancies rise relatively steadily, placing them on par with the wealthiest nations of Western Europe. Those states tend to have more stringent regulations.
By contrast, the life expectancy in states with more conservative health, labor and social policies — concentrated in the South and Appalachia — has stagnated in recent decades, according to the study, which adds to growing research on health and political disparities between states.
A federal court today granted a request by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to strike down federal permits for the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline.
The Court found the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers violated the National Environmental Policy Act when it affirmed federal permits for the pipeline originally issued in 2016. Specifically, the Court found significant unresolved concerns about the potential impacts of oil spills and the likelihood that one could take place.
Trump’s assassination of Iranian general Qassim Suleimeni is only one of many autocratic mis-steps by the moron in the White House. Pentagon officials were reportedly stunned by the moron’s decision. The Iraq parliament approved a non-binding resolution telling the U.S. to get out of Iraq. We may be going to war with Iran. ISIS will expand.
This, after we were lied to about the Iraq war.
Thank (largely) Republican warhawks for all of this. The same Republicans who say they won’t impeach the moron.
Republicans: The Most Dangerous Organization in Human History
Republicans, says Noam Chomsky, are the most dangerous organization in human history.
As Australia is turned into cinders by huge wildfires, as communities experience increased flooding, as Russians continue to work to influence our elections, and as gun deaths and mass-shootings rise, the Republicans refuse to even acknowledge any of it, and, in fact deny any of it. High-tide flooding has doubled in the past thirty years.
The Republican solution? EPA website removes climate science site from public view after two decades.
Financial Bankruptcy and Military Spending
According to this site, the U.S. has 200,000 active troops overseas in 177 countries. Under Republicans, we pay more tax dollars to fund the military. Over One Trillion dollars per year.
An already-huge defense spending budget has increased under Republicans. While this pie chart is several years old, it’s an example of how much of our discretionary spending goes to the military:
Although military spending is HUGE, and ever-increasing under Republican leadership, the Republicans’ solution to an ever-increasing national debt is to cut social-welfare programs like Social Security (which is self-funding), Medicare and Medicaid.
Republicans promised tax breaks for everyone with their #GOPTaxScam. Instead, multi-billion-dollar corporations paid NO taxes, as the national debt exploded under the moron and Republicans. Ironic, isn’t it, that the political party which promotes itself as
the party of “fiscal responsibility” is actually the party of “borrow and spend”.
The moron and his Republican cohorts have destroyed environmental protections. ” A new report concludes that the damage already done by the Trump administration to the environment, and the US agency that regulates it, will result in 80,000 deaths each decade. “
Republicans are Screwing America.
America, it should be painfully obvious to anyone paying attention that Republicans are screwing America.
A federal database tracking pollution in the United States was retired earlier this month, drawing criticism from environmental advocates.
TOXMAP, an interactive map hosted by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and accessible to the public, allowed users to track pollution-producing factories and other environmental concerns such as superfund cleanup sites.
However, on Dec. 16, all links to the application on the NLM’s website were deprecated, following an announcement from the agency in September notifying users that the site would be “retired.”
The billionaire died this week at age 79 of causes yet unknown. While he certainly enjoyed the fruits of his labors to deregulate U.S. industry and reduce taxes on the super-wealthy like himself, he will never have to experience the consequences of his biggest achievement: putting the entire planet on the brink of crisis in the service of enriching himself and a few other fossil fuel billionaires. And we, the people and future generations who are going to live with the fallout, will never see him or the small cadre of wealthy conservatives who funded decades of climate denial face any form of justice.
Some organizations and corporations are still promoting the use of nuclear power. How dumb is that?
A massive concrete dome built during the Cold War to contain waste from US Nuclear testing has degraded and began leaking nuclear waste into the Pacific Ocean, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has confirmed.
Watch the video of Feinstein telling kids to go to hell:
Bill McKibben calls Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ proposed “Green New Deal” a “stroke of genius” and the “Most serious response to the [climate] crisis yet”!
What Bill, and most of the rest of the country ignore: The Green Party introduced the Green New Deal some 10 years ago.
Why has it been ignored?
Thank the corporate media and the duopoly, as well as the duopoly and the media encouraging voters to ignore third parties.
