Green New Deal

The media and her fellow Democrats are making much of Ocasio-Cortez and her proposal for a “Green New Deal”.

In fact, a “Green New Deal” was proposed some 10 years ago by the Green Party.

Ocasio-Cortez’s version is feeble when compared to the Green Party version.  Moreover, I see precious little chance it would be approved by a Republican Senate or signed by the madman in the White House.

This is an example of stunts I expect the Democrats to pull during the next two years: Promise to take care of the working class serfs and introduce bills they know will have no chance of making it through the Senate (or signed by Trump).  It looks good for the Democrats, making it appear they really want to help serfs and working class (when they are primarily concerned with payola).

New Democrats: Same as the old Democrats.

Is It Time to End Churches’ Tax-Exempt Status?

Far too many churches, it appears, are involved in politics, violating their tax-exempt status.

Big Pharma Undertakes Propaganda Campaign

If you use Twitter, you may have noticed that big pharmaceutical companies have been tweeting a lot of positive self-promoting tweets.

In the background, they’re spending millions to buy politicians and kill efforts to obtain lower drug prices and promote “Medicare for all”.

Big Pharma funneled at least 2.5 million to the notorious, pro-Trump dark money group America First — at the same time Trump backed off his position on Medicare drug prices and promoted a tax plan that was a windfall for the pharmaceutical industry. https://t.co/0gQRElB2Fv— Public Citizen (@Public_Citizen) December 9, 2018

Tax Cuts for the Rich, Cuts in Services for the Rest of Us

I recently tried to call the IRS about a bill I received. I was put on hold and after an hour of waiting I gave up and wrote a letter instead. About a month later, the IRS sent me a letter saying they would respond within a month or so.  The response I finally received, about two months later, did not answer all of my questions.

Republicans went on a yuge “cost-cutting” spree several years ago which has cut agencies such as the IRS and Social Security to the bone.

Do you need to contact one of those agencies?  Good luck.
But don’t worry…the rich and corporations still got $1.5 trillion worth of tax cuts, thanks to the GOP.

Capitalism: Abuse of Seniors

Capitalism is about making money — in any way possible, even if it means people suffer as a result:

To the state inspectors visiting the HCR ManorCare nursing home here last year, the signs of neglect were conspicuous. A disabled man who had long, dirty fingernails told them he was tended to “once in a blue moon.” The bedside “call buttons” were so poorly staffed that some residents regularly soiled themselves while waiting for help to the bathroom. A woman dying of uterine cancer was left on a bedpan for so long that she bruised.
[And there’s more.]

Under the ownership of the Carlyle Group, one of the richest private-equity firms in the world, the ManorCare nursing-home chain struggled financially until it filed for bankruptcy in March.

The rise in health-code violations at the chain began after Carlyle and investors completed a 2011 financial deal that extracted $1.3 billion from the company for investors but also saddled the chain with what proved to be untenable financial obligations, according to interviews and financial documents…
